While maybe not ‘directly’ relevant to this project, we have all been looking at Martin Wattenberg’s Shape of Song. In this digital art-piece, Wattenberg has used software to analyse and visualise repetition within songs of various genres of music. Beautiful stark graphic imagery emerges, and especially in the case of the analysis of Madonna’s ‘Like a Prayer’ – it’s immediately obvious what you’re seeing from an audio-perspective. Not entirely sure what its saying about the work of my favourite contemporary classical composer Philip Glass though. Let's just say ‘minimalist'.
