Transformative is back! Hand-in-hand with our Subjective series, which sees Nick Knight re-imagine fashion photography from the model's point of view, our Transformative project presents a history of contemporary fashion imagery from the perspective of those who work behind the scenes: makeup artists, stylists and hairdressers.
This week's interview is with makeup artist Val Garland, who discusses working with Tim Walker on a shoot for W magazine. Garland describes the makeup for one particular model: 'This young boy was just so incredibly gorgeous, and Edward [Enninful] was going, 'Just do what you want to do!' I thought, he's wearing this beautiful yellow dress, let's just cover him in yellow glitter. It was something so simple.' She also recalls collaborations with Lee McQueen, Kate Moss and Katie Grand, and explains why her relationship with Walker is so strong; 'What I love about Tim is that he is a storyteller. Anything can happen so it's always a lot of fun.'
