Born in Singapore and raised in Nepal, designer Prabal Gurung gained his training in fashion design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Delhi, India. Following apprenticeships at a number of designers, stylists and publications in India, Australia and London, Gurung moved to New York City in 1999 where he attended the Parsons School of Design alongside an internship at Donna Karan. Following a position as design director at Bill Blass, Gurung left to set up his own eponymous collection which first showed at New York Fashion Week in February 2009. Since then, Prabal Gurung has had his  dresses worn by various high-profile women including Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.
