Showcasing a selection of works from some of the most pioneering fashion photographers - a subset previously ignored by the art world - Beyond Fashion is an exhibition that encapsulates the move away from aesthetic snobbery, towards an all-encompassing visual culture, wherein the fashion image is given the deserved recognition for its artistic quality.
The exhibition showcases work by over 40 of the most important fashion photographers, including Peter Lindbergh, Ellen von Unwerth, Miles Aldridge, Blommers & Schumm, Erik Madigan Heck and of course, Nick Knight himself.
Of Knight, the show features two images: Snakes, 2009 from the Alexander McQueen S/S 10 campaign and Alek Wek for Dior couture A/W 00. Moreover, a section is dedicated to SHOWstudio's fashion films – a genre first coined by Knight.
The SHOWstudio fashion films are compiled in a curated montage which plays in a separated viewing room. True to Knight’s mantra that 'fashion is meant to be seen in motion', the films push the clothes and models to their limits.
Beyond Fashion shows at ArtisTree, Taikoo Place, Hong Kong from 12 January - 24 February 2019.
